Our team is aware of the latest vulnerability, Log4Shell, which is being tracked as CVE-2021-44228.  Log4Shell is a critical vulnerability that’s affecting a Java logging package, log4j.

Log4j is used in a large number of software, online games, and platforms, including Apple iCloud, Minecraft, Amazon, Twitter, Google and many others.  It is considered a zero-day vulnerability, given the name because organizations are given zero days to patch their systems.  It is such a critical vulnerability because attackers have to ability to remotely take full control over a system without interacting with the victim.  With this particular vulnerability, the fear is that ransomware is not far behind.

We are actively working with vendors to obtain patches as soon as they become available.  Patching and mitigating this vulnerability should be at the very top of everyone’s security list.  Any questions or concerns, you can reach out to a CATS Technology Technician directly 732-204-7100.  As always, we are here for you 24/7.
