U.S. Government Taking Steps to Regulate Cyber Security

Let’s face it, by now the importance of Cyber Security is a well known fact.  The frequency that Cyber Attacks occur is alarming and is only getting more and more common as time goes on.

The United States government had been making changes to the following to help regulate Cyber Security: the Federal Trade Commission, Food and Drug Administration, Department of Transportation, Department of Energy, and Cyber Security and Infrastructure Security Agency.  In addition, in 2021, 36 states enacted a new Cyber Security Legislation.  Companies should make a point to be aware of and understand the kinds of regulations that are permanently instilled or are being considered.

There are other countries whose Cyber Security regulations have been more focused on privacy over anything else.  Since only attacks that steal personal information must be reported, it makes it nearly impossible to know how many Cyber Attacks there actually are.  Since the United States considers this approach to be unsustainable, the White House, Congress, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and other agencies are enforcing new rules that would require companies to report all Cyber incidents.

In the meantime, it’s important to do the following:

  • Make sure all of your procedures are up to the task.
  • Keep ransomware policies up to date.
  • Have proper Cyber Security Services in place (CATS Technology can help you with that!)
  • Have Cyber Security, and Cyber and Personal Policies and Procedures in place to protect yourself and your customer’s data.
