There are a lot of misconceptions and myths out there when it comes to backups. Many believe if you are using a certain program, then all of your data and information is automatically being backed up, but this isn’t always the case!
With services such as Azure Environment and the Office 365 Environment, data is not automatically backed up. Office 365 Backups consist of items such as One Drive, SharePoint, Contacts, OneNote, Teams Channels, Teams Files, and Email itself. Azure Backups consist of backups for files stored in Azure, as well as servers hosted in Azure.
A popular myth regarding Office 365 is that because it’s in the cloud in One Drive, Teams, or SharePoint, many think that it is automatically backed up. However, that is not true.
It’s very important to specifically add a data backup to your current cybersecurity plan. The rate of data breaches are continuing to rise and when it comes to data loss, you risk the possibility of loss in productivity, fines, revenue disruptions, and down time.
Here are more backup myths to be aware of:
- Backup is too expensive – If you compare the ‘cost’ of lost data, backups are actually not expensive at all. Being able to protect your data from accidental or malicious data deletion is worth every penny.
- Only regulated businesses need backup – It doesn’t matter if you are a small business or large corporation, all businesses need backup. Hackers will get their hands on anything they can.
- Backup isn’t a priority – Usually people don’t think back up is a priority until they are a victim of a data breach. Bottom line, if your business isn’t backed up, then it is at risk.
