We don’t just handle your IT needs at CATS Technology Solutions Group, but we can deliver babies too! At least Technician Mike Sherian can, because that is exactly what happened exactly one week ago today.
Let’s go back to Sunday, April 12; Mike’s wife, Darah, 38 weeks pregnant with their baby boy, was having contractions throughout the night. They scheduled a doctor’s appointment for Monday afternoon, where they tracked the contractions and confirmed they were occurring every 15 minutes. They were instructed to go home and give them a call once the contractions occurred every 5 minutes for one hour’s time. Once it got to that point, then they could make their way to the hospital.
All day Monday, Darah was continuing to have very strong contractions, but they were inconsistent. One would occur after 8 minutes, the next 20 minutes, the next 15 minutes. Although they were all over the place, they never reached the 5 minute apart mark their doctor told them to keep a look out for.
Making an attempt to keep Darah comfortable, Mike suggested she take a warm shower. Once she got out of the shower, she was in so much pain that she couldn’t even get dressed, so they decided it was time to get to the hospital. While Mike made a couple phone calls; one to Darah’s mother to come over and watch their kids, and the other to their doctor to let them know they were leaving for the hospital, the contractions came on even stronger. It was time to call 911.
As Mike was on the phone with 911, he looked back and saw Darah through the front glass door – her water just broke! 911 ended up accidentally transferring Mike to the state police, so he hung up and ran inside. He tried to help Darah get dressed, but she said, “We can’t wait, this baby is coming NOW!” Mike got down on his knees and, once the baby’s head was out, pulled the rest of the baby’s body out. The umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck, so Mike flipped him and untangled the cord. He just delivered their healthy and beautiful baby boy! Shortly after, the police and rescue squad arrived, and everyone was brought to the hospital.
