Infographic: Ransomware By The Numbers (via DATTO)

Ransomware is a real and serious threat to any IT environment, and it is on the rise. In Q1 of 2015, there was a 165% increase in incidents of ransomware from Q4 2014. It is estimated that there was a total of $325 million worth of damage caused by ransomware in 2015. The folks over at Datto put together a great infographic highlighting the statistics of the ransomware epidemic in 2015, and it’s scary to say the least. We can’t stress enough, the importance of having a disaster and recovery solution in place and regularly maintained to ensure business continuity and data recovery in the event of a ransomware attack, as well as taking the precautions of keeping all antivirus and security software up to date, and making sure to never open suspicious files. The biggest red flag for end-users should be unidentifiable email attachments, or email attachments from unknown senders.
